For our mothers, who have given us life and love,
that we may show them reverence and love in return,
“We pray to you, O God.”
For consolation for mothers who have lost a child through death,
that their faith may give them hope, and their family and friends
may support and console them,
“We pray to you, O God.”
For women, though without children of their own, who like
mothers, have nurtured and cared for us, and for our church and community,
“We pray to you, O God.”
For mothers, who have struggled to be able to be a source of
strength, who have faced difficult challenges in responding to their
families and have fallen short or been unappreciated for their efforts,
“We pray to you, O God.”
O Loving God, like a mother gives life and nourishment to her children,
so you nourish your Church. Bless these women, and all women
everywhere that they may be strengthened in their devotion to you,
and your call upon their lives. Let the example of their faith and love
shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, husbands, fathers,
and brothers may honor them always with a spirit of respect and appreciation.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
